Sarah Hassler

CONDUCTING OCTAVO & TREBLE

Sarah Hassler is the music specialist at Cherry Tree Elementary School in Carmel Clay Schools, where she teaches grades K-5. She has taught students ranging in age from toddlers through college in general as well as instrumental music.

Mrs. Hassler is a graduate of Capital University with a Master of Education with Kodály Emphasis and The Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Music Education. She received her Orff-Schulwerk certification from the University of St. Thomas (St. Paul, Minnesota). She was the recipient of the Gregory Von Stein Scholarship from Capital University and the Gertrude Keetman Scholarship from the American Orff-Schulwerk Association. She teaches all Orff-Schulwerk Certification Levels in movement and Level 1 recorder at Anderson University, Anderson, Indiana. She will also be teaching certification level movement at the University of Florida. In 2005-2006 she presented at the national AOSA Conference in Birmingham, Alabama; the Indiana Music Educator’s Association conference in Indianapolis; and the national OAKE conference in Charlotte, North Carolina.

She has enjoyed serving as guest conductor of honors choirs in Ohio, Indiana and Missouri. She has presented both Orff and Kodály workshops in Indiana, Michigan and Ohio.

Mrs. Hassler is happy to begin her seventh year as an assistant director with the Indianapolis Children’s Choir, conducting both the Octavo and Treble choirs. Her work with ICC includes having taught Kindermusik in the Preparatory Division and teaching and conducting in the annual Choral Festival.

Her professional memberships include: American Orff-Schulwerk Association, Organization of American Kodály Educators, Indiana Orff-Schulwerk Association, Indiana Kodály Educators, Music Educators National Conference and the American Choral Directors Association. She serves on the boards of both IOSA and IKE.
